Berrien County Intermediate School District Evaluation

Name Janine Lim Evaluator Jim Bembenek

Position Instructional Technologist Date 3/24/1998

1. What did you do last year that made a difference to our constituents and what evidence do you have to show it was effective? New (maximum two)

I created 50 new workshops designed to help teachers effectively use technology in their classrooms and curriculum. I helped to offer two more sessions of Classrooms Alive! during the school year. I know this was effective because workshop participants reacted positively on the post-class feedback forms which I have on file.

I began a program of classroom demonstrations of software and technology integration lessons. Currently, I have visited over 30 schools for this purpose. I know this is effective because some of the schools of bought software and integrated it into their curriculum. Other schools are now more effectively using the software they already owned. For example, in the McKinley school in Dowagiac, many teachers were not using the LCD panel or the MacMillan Dictionary software. I showed them how to use the software to practice spelling words and keep track of spelling bees. Now the teachers are much more comfortable using these tools to teach spelling.

Major Continuing (maximum two)

I reorganized the Classroom Resources section of the BCISD web page and I am adding new links and resources monthly. I added my monthly newsletters, sites related to seasonal holidays and events, and a training section to support my classes. I know this is effective because I have received positive comments from teachers and other people in North America have also emailed me with their appreciation and positive comments.

2. What improvements do you plan to make on a continuing project? (maximum two)

I plan to take the Teachers Helping Teachers participants and create a group of Technology Resource Teachers like the other consultants have for their subject areas. I will extend an invitation to join to those schools and teachers who, for various reasons, were unable to participate in the THT project. I plan to meet with these teachers twice a year to assist them in their training and learning experiences in their respective schools and districts.

3. What new projects are you planning next year and how do they relate to the School Improvement Plan? (maximum two)

I plan to add another section to the web site that is for people who want to "train themselves" using the Internet as a resource. This will initially focus on Internet skills such as integration in the curriculum, search skills, classroom lessons, and creating web pages. I plan to research the possibility of having a follow-up quiz and a certificate of completion the person could print when finished. Providing professional development in the area of technology is part of the School Improvement Plan.

5. What have you done the past year for your own professional development?

I attended two training sessions in September to learn about OCLC resources and the Learning with Technology course from NCREL. This training gave me the necessary skills to give training on OCLC and Learning with Technology. I also attended MACUL '98, a conference where I was inspired with new ideas and found many materials to improve my staff development plans.

6. Evaluator's comments/recommendations:

Janine is doing an outstanding job and exceeds all expectations. I receive nothing but positive reports from people she works with. She is certainly a valuable asset to our team.
